Eco-friendly plasticizer UniHydro®UN899

PVC gloves are thin and with good performance, they are widely used in daily life. Do you know that there are actually hidden killers, VOC volatile organic compounds, which are harmful to human body and environment while processing? The main components of the plastisol in glove fomula are emulsified PVC powder, plasticizer, stabilizer, viscosity reducer and additives, etc., and the viscosity reducer plays an important role in reducing the viscosity of the formula. The common viscosity reducers on the market are low-boiling solvents, which are very volatile during processing, it leads to human body and environment damage. In addition, some viscosity reducers are expensive and increase the material cost. In order to solve those problems, we can use eco-friendly plasticizers with viscosity-reducing effect instead to reduce viscosity reducers dosage, and minimise VOCs to get a better working environment.

 

Common eco-friendly plasticizers on the market include DINCH (UN899) and DOTP. The content of plasticizer in plastisol is usually > 60PHR. UN899 has excellent viscosity reducing property which can greatly reduce the viscosity reducer dosage in formula. It also provides great properties like low VOC in process, high formulation viscosity stability, high plasticizer retention and good product durability. In contrast, DOTP has many disadvantages in plastisol processing such as high formula viscosity, high viscosity reducer dosage and poor product durability (see Table 1 and Figure 1). It can be seen that UN899 is more suitable for glove products.
