In the face of global challenges posed by climate change and environmental issues, the market is increasingly in need of more sustainable alternatives. In August 2024, UPC Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BASF, a leading German chemical company, to supply alcohols used in plasticizers and to focus on improving catalyst efficiency for phthalic anhydride (PA) and maleic anhydride (MA). The Company is also committed to developing sustainable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in both processes and products, thereby ensuring it meets customers’ demands for environmental sustainability.

The advent of AI brings new opportunities for businesses to enhance operations. Through various applications, AI can significantly improve real-time risk prediction and warning capabilities, thereby reducing the likelihood of process related fires in the chemical industry. UPC Technology has applied AI in the following specific areas:

• Occupational Safety Visual Recognition Alerts
  Visualized safety monitoring in key areas of the plant, such as detecting unauthorized entry, unattended personnel, the wearing status of safety helmets and uniforms, as well as fire and smoke detection.
• Predictive Equipment Maintenance
  Using intelligent data collection platforms to gradually replace manual inspections, enhancing the ability to monitor equipment status while reducing the workload of inspection personnel.
• Future Direction
  Integrating production process data into AI models to optimize operations, embedding regulations and procedures into chatbot systems to accurately respond to employee inquiries, and improving AI response quality through the combination of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and generative AI.
